Pete Cordova was born in 1948 and comes from the earliest families to settle the Colorado area before Colorado became a State. Soon after graduating from Sierra Grande High School in Fort Garland, CO, Pete "volunteered for the draft" and entered the US Army. After Basic Training, Advanced Infantry Training and Paratrooper Jump School, Pete was given Orders to the 101st Airborne Division and sent immediately (after 30 days leave) to Viet Nam. "I was in Viet Nam for exactly one year. I went in July 18, 1968 and got out July 17, 1969". Pete attended Adams State College in Alamosa obtaining an Education degree. After teaching for three years in San Luis, Colorado where he in fact attended elementary school, the famed Criminal Law Trial Lawyer Rollie Rogers and then Public Defender offered Pete a position as Investigator with the Office of the Colorado State Public Defender and was based out of Salida, CO. Pete served as the Investigator for the esteemed O. Edward Schlatter while Ed was the Public Defender in Salida. Ed Schlatter is now a US Federal Court Magistrate for the District of Colorado. According to Pete "Ed said that since I was almost practicing law anyway—and was becoming more and more a pain in his behind that I should go to law school". Pete credits Ed Schlatter in motivating him to attend the University of Colorado where Pete received his Juris Doctorate degree in 1981. Pete is married to his loving wife Tracy who owns a realty company Antero Realty in Salida. Pete and Tracy have five children.
